2012 season will be here soon!

The 2012 schedule has been posted on the schedule link.

The schedule has a few changes.  The state now allows teams to play 20 games and 1 tournament.  We chose that option as it allows us to spread our games over a more days.  We also added a new school to the schedule, School of the Osage.  They are a class 2 school within our region.

Postseason play has a few changes to note as we host the district tournament.  Our district winner travels for the sectional, and that sectional winner hosts the quarterfinal.  The quarterfinal winner advances to the state championships, which are now held in Blue Springs.

The traditional “Pink it Up!” game will be held on May 7th when the Tigers host Clinton.  WHS will host O’Hara on May 10th for “Senior Night.”

There is the possibility that WHS will partner with several other schools state-wide this year to host an inaugural “Gray Matters” game promoting the awareness of brain tumors.  Information will be posted when it becomes available.

The 2012 season will be the 13th in WHS history.  The 10th victory of the season will be historic as it is the program’s 200th win.

O’Hara 2 Tigers 1

The Tigers dropped a 2-1 match to close the regular season last night at O’Hara.  WHS finishes 6-4 in the WCC, good for third place.

The Tigers took control of the game early.  In the 5th minute Patience Fleak threaded a ball through to Taylor Geis for what seemed to be a 1-0 lead.  Unfortunately the assistant referee had her flag up for offsides.

The Tigers scored again in the 9th minute as one of Allysa Parsell’s flip throws found Hanna Dillingham at the back post.  Dillingham redirected the ball to Megan Batusic who scored from the left edge of the penalty area.

O’Hara was awarded a penalty kick in the 45th minute.  Though the shot hit the post, the Tigers couldn’t clear and the Celtics scored on the third shot of a flurry.

The Tigers continued to pressure the Celtic goal.  Geis and Fleak each had quality chances thwarted by O’Hara’s Derriana White.  Brie Monetti had a ball cleared by the O’Hara’s defender off the line in the 70th minute.

O’Hara was awarded a penalty kick in the 74th minute as a Tiger defender was struck in the back and elbow by a Celtic shot.  The center official refused to consult the linesman and awarded a penalty kick.  O’Hara converted to take the lead.

Warrensburg is currently 14-8 and enters district play as the 3rd seed and will play 2nd seeded  Harrisonville Monday night at HHS.

5.12.11 @ O’Hara

It is O’Hara’s senior night so the game has been moved to 5:00.  The winner of  this game will finish 7-3 in the conference and finish 2nd.  Or we could say the winner is crowned the “WCC Small School Division Champion” :)

This game is always an exciting contest as the last 4 matches have gone overtime.

The bus will load at 3:15 and depart by 3:20.  After the game is over we will be stopping at the coaching staff’s favorite restaurant… Quick Trip!

Pink Tigers 4 Clinton 0

The Pink Tigers advanced to 14-7 on the season with a road win over the Clinton Cardinals on Monday night.  Taylor Geis scored on a Christy Crouse serve from the right wing in the 3rd minute to start the scoring.  She finished the scoring in the 78th minute.  Crouse and Patience Fleak had goals as well.

Erin Brockhaus faced minimal pressure to get the shutout in goal as the Pink Tigers were able to stifle Clinton’s speedy freshman, Laurel Dehn.

Both squads battled stifling heat and humidity for the first time as the referees chose to have water breaks in both halves.

The JV Tigers fell 4-1.  Emily Whitney had an early goal to put the Tigers ahead.  Clinton’s varsity swing players proved too much, however.  Dehn made several quality saves in the JV goal for Clinton, including a stopping a penalty kick.

The Pink Tigers will travel to Kansas City to close out the regular season with a match against O’Hara on Thursday.  The Celtics beat WHS 3-2 in double overtime earlier in the year.  A Pink Tiger victory would mean a 7-3 conference record and another second place finish.

The Pink Tigers travel deep into Henry County today to play a WCC match with Clinton.  We confirmed today that it is varsity first, starting at 4:30.

CHS plays at Tony Komer Field.  Directions are on the school athletic website.  The field is named for Tony Komer who was tragically killed in the Elks Lodge collapse on June 26, 2006.

On Tuesday John Relihan will be here to distribute cookie dough.  We should get those out ASAP to those that supported our cause.
