“We started fast with a point blank chance in the opening minute. We had three other great looks in the first 15 minutes. If we finish a couple of those, we’re likely looking at a positive result tonight.”
“We had a great effort tonight. We created all the chances we needed. In the run of play we were solid defensively. We just had a couple breaks go against us that changed the momentum of the game.”
“The first goal we had McFarlen defended well with a little bit of contact. McFarlen is a D1 player next year and she kept her feet and layed a nice pass off to the wing and that girl got a shot off. To me the play is over and let’s get out. Unfortunately they were awarded a set piece dead center of the goal and she buried it.”
“The second goal we were going forward and lost possession in the attacking third. Courtney made a great tactical foul that wasn’t called. Bolivar played it to the left edge of the box quick and Sharniece was whistled for a PK. It’s a judgement call, I just wish the guy with the whistle hadn’t been 45 yards away, or looked to his linesman who had nothing on the play.”
“It was strange to get to halftime of a game where we carried the bulk of the play, had the edge in quality chances, made only two mistakes and we are down 3-0. I’ve never been there before.”
“We knew we had to be great out of the air on the corners and flip throws to win tonight, and we were. We used Jalisa to clog the midfield to limit the chances McFarlen and Welch got, and we did a good job there. It just wasn’t meant to be.”
“Our kids played the entire 80 and I’m proud of them. With four minutes left Gelbach hits a rocket on goal and then catches Bolivar’s midfielder on the counterattack. That kind of effort, all the time, is what we are about.”
“If your going to lose a tough one there is some consolation that it was to Bolivar. We have so much respect for them. We’ll be dressed in pink and banging the drums for them in the quarterfinals Thursday.”
“We’ll celebrate our season next Tuesday night. It was a great ride. We improved all along, had fun, and learned some great lessons. We are all better people for the experiences we had.”
