The Tigers dropped a 2-1 match to close the regular season last night at O’Hara. WHS finishes 6-4 in the WCC, good for third place.
The Tigers took control of the game early. In the 5th minute Patience Fleak threaded a ball through to Taylor Geis for what seemed to be a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately the assistant referee had her flag up for offsides.
The Tigers scored again in the 9th minute as one of Allysa Parsell’s flip throws found Hanna Dillingham at the back post. Dillingham redirected the ball to Megan Batusic who scored from the left edge of the penalty area.
O’Hara was awarded a penalty kick in the 45th minute. Though the shot hit the post, the Tigers couldn’t clear and the Celtics scored on the third shot of a flurry.
The Tigers continued to pressure the Celtic goal. Geis and Fleak each had quality chances thwarted by O’Hara’s Derriana White. Brie Monetti had a ball cleared by the O’Hara’s defender off the line in the 70th minute.
O’Hara was awarded a penalty kick in the 74th minute as a Tiger defender was struck in the back and elbow by a Celtic shot. The center official refused to consult the linesman and awarded a penalty kick. O’Hara converted to take the lead.
Warrensburg is currently 14-8 and enters district play as the 3rd seed and will play 2nd seeded Harrisonville Monday night at HHS.
