Game #5 Pink Tigers 2 O’Hara 3 (2ot)

The Pink Tigers dropped to 1-1 in the WCC and 3-2 overall in a home contest Tuesday.  The Tigers battled back from a two goal deficit to send the game into extra time.  The Pink Tigers and Celtics have now played three consecutive overtime games, as last year both went to penalty kicks.

“The first 10 minutes of the game we took it at them and had a flurry of chances that we didn’t finish.  Then we relaxed and played 30 minutes with no urgency.  We were lucky not to be down by three at the break.”

“We reached a point that some of the things we are doing are incompatible with the way we defend.  At halftime we decided as a group that we’d play quicker and a bit more direct to maximize on the impact of our forward’s speed.  The second half was much better.  It’s not negative soccer to be more direct.  We’re working hard to get 1 v 1 and 3 v 2 situations, we just need to get better at recognizing when they are on and get them in play.”

“Our leadership showed up well in battling back.  There was no back-biting, just kids trying to get back into the game. ”

“We do have some things getting exposed that we must improve on.  We have to get better in the air.  It does no good for Alyssa to flip rockets on the frame and us not win a first touch.  And truly, the goal that beat us was should have been cleared.”

“Ultimately we are in the same place we were a year ago, 3-2 coming off a two goal loss to Harrisonville and an ot loss to O’Hara.  We’ve got a better idea of our strengths and weaknesses than we had two weeks ago.”
